Conscious Sedation

On Monday Hailey had to have some serious dental work done. The dentist thought it would be best to "sedate" her, keep her for the day and get everything done all at one time. The night before Hailey had to take a Valium to get the ball rolling. She then had to be up at 6:20 a.m. and begin taking the medicine they would give her throughout the day to keep her sedated. For those of you who don't know Hailey well, 6:20 a.m. is the middle of the night for her. In any event, she got up, took her medicine and even put some makeup on. About 7:00 a.m. when Hailey was to be at the dentist she started feeling a bit tired from the medicine. They told us she should be comfortable so she just wore some sweats and incredibly left her cell phone home. So, I drop Hailey off at the dentist at 7 and they will call me when she is ready to come home. They are estimating about 7 hours.
Now let me educate you on what I have learned about "conscious sedation." Hailey was medicated and very tired, but still able to communicate with the dentist. We were told that she could go to the bathroom when she needed to but that someone would have to go in with her just in case she fell. She was not allowed to eat from midnight on, just a bit of water to take the meds with. Hailey had taken medicine similar to this once before and got pretty sick but they did not think she would get sick this time; they were wrong.
The dental office called me around 2:00 o'clock that afternoon and said she was ready and that everything went really well. When I got there to pick her up she looked as though she had been sleeping all day, a rough sleep. The dentist told me how things went, what they did and was pleased to have her all done. They then tell me that they believe that Hailey has swallowed her lip ring. The dentist has spoken to his friend Dr. S and could we take Hailey over and have a chest x-ray to make sure she does not aspirate on the lip ring. They won't charge me for it, they are expecting me, etc. As we are preparing to leave the dental office, Hailey becomes sick and throws up in the trash can. The dentist says its important to hydrate her and that will help with the nausea, and they give her some juice. The dentist and the assistant help Hailey out to the car, she almost fell on the dentist in the hall way. The dentist puts her in the car and buckles her seat belt, oh and he gave her a gift certificate for a Jamba.
We drive over to get the x-ray and Hailey is still quite sick and tired. As we enter the building Hailey gets sick and throws up in this little plastic bag that the dentist gave me. She could barely walk. Finally we get her into the office, they were very kind and laid her on a couch with a blanket. Finally they do the x-ray, and once we are done decide they should x-ray her stomach just to be sure where the lip ring may be. At this point Hailey can take no more and lays her head on my chest and just starts to cry. "I'm so tired and I don't feel good, I just want to go home!" And lo and behold there the little thing is on the x-ray, in her stomach, the lip ring. So not worth the trouble, but yes necessary.
Finally we get to come home. I get Hailey in the door and put her in my bed so she will be upstairs and I can keep an eye on her. She crashed HARD. Hailey slept for three and a half hours. Then just like that she wakes up and wants food.

Actual conversation

Voice mail from my mom - "Hey did you try to call me? I saw you called, call me when you get this. Is everything okay?"

Me-"Hi, I did try to call you but it just kept ringing, I never got your voice mail."
Mom-"Is everything okay, I got a call from a school."
Me-"Yes, every things fine."
Mom-"I got a call from this school, Harvard. They left me a message and I called them back because I thought it might be your kids calling from school. I thought there might be an emergency"
Me-"No, we're fine. Um, Harvard is a college back East."
Mom-"When I called them back they asked if I had kids at home and I told them all of my kids were grown and gone from home so they took me off the calling list."
Me-"Yeah, Harvard is a college back East, my kids don't go to that school."
Mom-"Well I didn't think so but I wanted to make sure everyone was okay."
Me-"Yep, we're good."

My first blog

The meaning of Content in the dictionary says "feeling or showing satisfaction with one's possessions, status, or situation." I just want the feeling.
